{"id":2957,"date":"2017-07-21T17:51:43","date_gmt":"2017-07-21T15:51:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.golfclubpetersberg.it\/maria-weissenstein"},"modified":"2017-08-09T15:25:17","modified_gmt":"2017-08-09T13:25:17","slug":"santuario-pietralba-maria-weisenstein-place-of-pilgrimage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/golfclubpetersberg.it\/en\/santuario-pietralba-maria-weisenstein-place-of-pilgrimage\/","title":{"rendered":"Santuario di Pietralba &#8211; Maria Wei\u00dfenstein place of pilgrimage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The origins of the famous <strong>pilgrimage site Maria Wei\u00dfenstein<\/strong> (which is situated on about 1530 m asl) date back to the year 1553, as the virgin Mary appeared to the mountain farmer <strong>Leonhard Wei\u00dfensteiner<\/strong> and he consequently healed from his disease.<br \/>\nIn order to show his gratitude she asked him to build a chapel where believers could go and pray for her. However, the original chapel soon turned into a crowded pilgrimage site and this is why it was necessary to build a real church.<br \/>\nThe basilica, as we know it today, has been concluded in 1654 and is a w<strong>onderful example of baroque style.<\/strong><br \/>\nThe church features the original chapel, which was built by L. Wei\u00dfensteiner, the high altar, which is overlaid with beaten gold and silver, the wonderful frescos on the arches (made by Adam M\u00f6lk), the side altars by Pu\u00dfj\u00e4gers as well as different other artworks made by A. Silber and F. Haider.
