The deep love of the locals for their valley as well as\u00a0 their longing for freedom and independence led to the foundation of the self-governing \u201cMagnifica Comunit\u00e0 della Val di Fiemme\u201d in the 12th century. This name can be translated literally as \u201cMagnificent community of Val di Fiemme\u201d. The community still exists and has numerous tasks. For instance it is responsible for administrating the Panaveggio wood, which is one of the most important and beautiful woods of Italy and Europe. It is a very precious type of wood which is often used for the realization of stringed and plucked instruments.
